Reusser : "It went perfect but it was not the plan"

April 23 rd 2023 - 14:17

Marlen Reusser (SD Worx): "I think it went perfect but it was not the plan. We followed our guts in the finale and it ended up like this. My plan was not to be in the breakaway. I wanted to save my legs. But I was at the front and attacks were going and with such a strong breakaway, I had to follow. Then I tried to have the most energy saving I could but I took my turns and I actually felt great on the climbs. Of course, I thought about [making it all the way to the finish]. But to be honest, after a climb [Côte des Forges], we turned left and there was a strong headwind. It was really hard and I knew the climbers had the legs to get back to me. But I was hoping for it to be as late as possible. I'm still learning. For example, today, I didn't have the best legs, I've had a very hard week and I manage to take this result. It shows this is far from the end for me."
